Mizuho Securities receives Yen Bond House of the Year in 2018 IFR Awards
For doing more than its peers to connect issuers and investors, Mizuho Securities was awarded Yen Bond House of the Year in the 2018 IFR Awards. The Awards dinner took place at Grosvenor House in London, on 29 January 2019.
The IFR Awards is considered to be the most prestigious event in the global capital markets calendar. It sees over 900 of the world’s most senior investment banking professionals gather to celebrate capital markets excellence. Accepting the award on behalf of Mizuho Securities was Mizuho International’s President & CEO, Suneel Bakhshi.
IFR said that in a market characterised by tightening currency basis swaps, easing geopolitical tensions between the US and North Korea and clarifications on holdings of loss-absorbing bonds, Mizuho Securities was ahead of the game. Mizuho’s constant engagement with issuers and investors resulted in the business being best placed to capture the key deals of the year. The meticulous preparation on the past years’ deals inclusive of Banco Santander’s Samurai debut, Lloyds’s three-part Yen offering and bringing UBS back to the Yen market after a 10 year absence, produced a very good year with key mandates standing out from its competitors.
Masaya Mizobuchi, head of global debt capital markets at Mizuho said that since last year and even the year before, Mizuho Securities has been proactively making sales pitches to issuers and providing information to investors, and these efforts started to bear fruit. Mizuho Securities also assisted the investor relations work, and this surely helped to bring investor feedback and issuer needs together.
