Tell us a bit about your background

I have always had a passion for Sciences such as Mathematics, and a keen interest in Finance. After completing my undergraduate in Computer Sciences and Maths, I completed my first Master's in Computer Science and I continued my study by completing a DESS (MPhil) in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Databases, focusing on Neural Networks. I decided to complete a second Master's with one of the leading researchers in the field of Formal Methods (mathematical methods to resolve software issues) and Security of Systems, in order to acquire the skills in building safe systems. During my study, I focused on the Human and Computer Interaction.

After my second Master's, I joined JP Morgan on their graduate programme. During my career in the financial sector, I spent the first part of it focusing on Front Office pricing trading applications. To further develop, I moved into a position in Risk Management, Product Control and I am currently working as a Strategist Improvement Lead in the Finance Department at Mizuho.

What future trends do you see forming in your industry?

The future of Finance will be impacted by the evolution of innovation. For example, whilst looking at the Artificial Intelligence field, it is clear that the impact of this science will not only be from a technical perspective, but it will have a significant impact on companies’ strategies and business models. Undoubtedly the financial sector will have many changes related to the integration of AI in their strategies. It is crucial for our industry to ensure a smooth integration of the science in its existing business structure.

The other item which I consider key is the democratisation of AI, which will be beneficial for companies. This will help the workforce to adapt to AI related innovations, by bringing with it a digital awareness.

What is the most valuable thing you have learned during your career?

I would say patience is crucial in order to reach your goals. Having an innovative spirit will help you to strive and move forward. Team work and team spirit will bring strength to successfully complete an initiative. Passion will help you appreciate every positive contribution done. Last but not least, simple human values help us to work towards a common goal.

What has been one of your most rewarding experiences at Mizuho?

One of my rewarding experiences in Mizuho is the implementation of the First RPA (Robotics Process Automation) robot in Mizuho International, which was done in Finance. The RPA scope is to perform several controls and tasks required in Finance.

What motivates you?

What keeps me motivated is the ability to contribute to the evolution of our industry, and to be part of its transformation.

What do you enjoy doing outside of work?

I write a number of articles on AI and on the democratisation of AI, as well as participate at a number of industry conferences.

I love sports especially spinning, CrossFit and surfing. I also have a passion for travelling and discovering new places.
